Is your neighborhood getting the loans it needs? Woodstock Institute is excited to announce the release of our Chicago Area Community Lending Fact Book: 2022 Data Edition.
Our Community Lending Fact Books provide in-depth information about trends in mortgage lending, foreclosures, small business lending, and bank branches across the seven-county Chicago region down to the neighborhood level.
This is the final year we will be publishing this data as both a hardcopy book and a PDF. In future years, data will appear exclusively on our Community Lending Data Portal, which allows for much more flexibility in analyzing and comparing different datasets.
In 2022, Black and Latino households continued to take out far more high-cost loans than White households, even after controlling for income and wealth differences. However, amidst an overall cooler mortgage market in 2022, White households accounted for more than 8 times the overall drop in lending than Black households in the City of Chicago.
