SPRINGFIELD, IL – J.B. Pritzker was inaugurated today as the 43rd governor of Illinois.

Woodstock Institute President, Dory Rand, issued the following statement about the inauguration of Governor J.B. Pritzker and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton:

“We congratulate Governor J.B. Pritzker on his inauguration and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton on her historic inauguration as Illinois’ first black lieutenant governor.  We applaud the Governor’s stated commitment to policies that would help improve the lives of lower-income people, such as affordable child care and paid parental leave. We also support his calls for a fair tax system and a progressive income tax. For too long, our state’s flat tax has helped perpetuate a financial system that benefits the white and wealthy at the expense of people of color and lower-income communities.”
