Let’s make sure that the voices of the financial industry are not the only ones heard by Washington. Please call Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Banking Committee Member Evan Bayh (D-IN) during the Americans for Financial Reform National Senate Call-In Week of March 1-March 4 and tell them to support financial reform that holds Wall Street accountable, including the creation of a strong and independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Members of the Senate must act now to prevent another financial crisis and enact legislation that will protect families’ finances for decades to come.

Let Sen. Dodd and Sen. Bayh know that real reform must:

1. Crack down on irresponsible and reckless behavior by big Wall Street firms and hold them accountable;

2. Protect consumers by policing unfair and deceptive practices by credit card companies, mortgage companies, and predatory lenders, and create a strong and independent consumer financial protection agency to get the job done well;

3. Close the loopholes that allow secret and risky “shadow market” deals where big banks enjoy the winnings of gambling with our money, and then expect us to pay when they lose.
