This week, the Illinois Senate will vote on SB2758, the Illinois Secure Choice Savings Program. The bill will automatically enroll many workers without access to an employment-based retirement savings plan into the Secure Choice savings program. While workers can opt out of the program, those who do participate will have access to a vital tool that allows them to save for their future.
The Illinois Secure Choice Savings Program is picking up a diverse array of supporters. The Chicago Tribune endorsed SB2758 today, urging members of both parties to vote for a bill that would “give private-sector workers a fighting chance at a future they can afford.” The State Journal-Register also lent its support to SB2758 today and called on states to “step in now to empower an increasing number of low-wage workers to save for retirement.” The Chicago Sun-Times praised the bill in February, saying that it holds “tremendous promise for bolstering retirement savings, particularly for low-wage workers.”
