Building Community: Developing Human and Economic Resources: Volume 2: Rediscovering Local Associations and Their Powers: Tools and Methods

Authors: Kretzmann, John, McKnight, John and Turner, Nicol

Summary

The report discussed mapping in community associations. Beginning in Chicago’s ethnically and economically diverse north side neighborhood of Rogers Park, and then in Grand Boulevard itself, a number of methods for “mapping” associational life were tested. Researchers began the mapping process in both Rogers Park and Grand Boulevard by meeting with and involving key community-based organizations, along with a number of residents who would be involved in both designing and carrying out the surveys. Community leaders helped to shape the design of the process for uncovering the associations.
