Summary 

This report covers the framework for examining the lending practices of three banks:  Independence Bank of Chicago, Drexel National Bank, and South Shore Bank of Chicago.  Table 1 illustrates the value of the loans, deposits, and assets of the three banks for the years 1987-1991, the latest year for which data are available. Tables 2a-2h provide information on commercial lending for each bank, by community area within each bank’s designated service area. Finally, Tables 3a, 3b, and 3c examine residential lending information in the community areas which fall within the boundaries of each bank, as delineated in their respective CRA statements. The information provided in the various tables show the extent to which the banks are meeting the needs of their surrounding communities in terms of residential and commercial lending.
